              Rhodes Town and Lindos

RHODES TOWN

A visit to Rhodes Town is top of most people’s list. It is most famous for the medieval Old Town, built by the Knights of St John, and one of the best preserved old walled fortresses in Europe. The walls enclose a thriving community which bustles with activity, tourist shops, tavernas and bars. We like to get off main streets in the Old Town where there is a wonderful maze of narrow alleys. A walk around the moat gives an amazing impression of the scale of the Old Town.

Outside the walls lies the commercial New Town and the harbours.  The picturesque and busy Mandraki Harbour is full of luxury private yachts and ferries offering trips to the surrounding islands of Symi and Halki – it is said that the ancient Collosus of Rhodes (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world)  stood astride the entrance to the harbour.

LINDOS

This beautiful village of white houses (mostly 15th century)  lies beneath the imposing ancient acropolis, surrounded by wonderful bays with excellent beaches.  The pedestrian only alleyways are a wonderful maze full of interesting shops and tavernas – the only vehicles being the donkeys which carry tourists up to the ancient monuments.

Villa Tsampika is situated half way between Rhodes Town and Lindos (λινδίων), making each very easily accessible by car.
